Tell us about your educational background?

I left high school with only 2 GCSE's because I simply couldn't do exams. I then decided to resit all of my GCSE's and passed them the following year. Having realised quite quickly that A Levels were not for me, I applied for an Early Years apprenticeship and on completion of that, I progressed onto the Level 2 and Level 3 Early Practitioner courses. It's felt like an eternity but I'm finally where I want to be.

Why did you decide to study the Foundation Degree at NSCG?

The course is part-time so this worked perfectly for me around my full-time job. I really wanted to study but without sacrificing my income and lifestyle. This course has also meant that I can train and practice my studies in the workplace which has definitely been a plus when completing my assignments.

How does the course help you in the workplace?

The theory side of the course is helping me to apply everything and learn to my personal skill set, which is really enhancing my personal ability.

How have your tutors supported you through your time at NSCG?

My tutor is very supportive and always on the end of the phone or email to answer any queries I have. Issues do arise, but the team are really approachable.

Balancing your studies with your work can be a challenge, how do you find the time to study?

I an in college for four hours a week and I study on average two hours every night to keep on top of my assignments and to digest what I've learn in college. Some weeks are harder than others, but I just need to plan my workload accordingly.

The class sizes at NSCG are smaller than most universities. Was this a positive aspect for you?

Learning in a smaller class means communication is more effective and we have more time to have open class discussions. Learning from my peers definitely has a positive impact on my learning and assignments. I've made so many new friends which has been brilliant.

Studying as an adult learner can be life-changing. How is the course helping you to grow personally and professionally?

The Foundation Degree has enabled me to teach higher year groups which has helped me a lot. My knowledge of children and how I can aid their development has grown and I feel a more stronger and competent practitioner as a result of my studies.

What are your top tips for anyone thinking of signing up for a university level course?

For anyone thinking of advancing their knowledge and careers, I'd really recommend NSCG as you will really progress in your career and be supported every step of the way.
