Course overviewThe course aims to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to begin to explore career opportunities within the sports and leisure industry and provide the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective sport and leisure activities. You will also gain a qualification to enable you to progress onto a level 2 programme as well as developing skills, which can be used in all forms of employment. The course also focuses on improving your skills in maths, English and I.C.T. This is a one year, full time course where learners will study units including How the Body Works, Taking Part in Exercise and Fitness and Planning Own Fitness Programme.
You will take part in a range of practical sports and fitness activities. You will also attend maths and English classes to help you continue to develop your skills and work towards passing an end of year exam.
What else do I need to know?Additional learning opportunities include visits to fitness centres and weekly use of Fenton Manor (a purpose built leisure centre). You will also have the opportunity to become part of the College Sports Academy and use college facilities.

What financial support is on offer?
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.
