Course overview
If you are inspired by a career in science or a science related area this course is for you. This course gives learners the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of all three sciences by developing their knowledge and understanding of fundamental scientific principles and how to apply these within a range of vocational contexts. This will include biology, its impact on the environment and the applications of the biological sciences in health care as well as key aspects of chemistry and the earth; energy and the universe. Alongside theoretical content you can also expect a practical hands-on experience learning about the scientific skills used by laboratory technicians working in biology, health care, and other science based industries. You will also study GCSE English and maths as part of your course if applicable.What are the entry requirements?
You will have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including maths, English and Science. If you have a keen interest in the subject and a strong commitment to succeed within a science based subject we can discuss your aspirations at interview.
How is it assessed?
You will be assessed by two externally set examinations as well as internally assessed coursework.
What financial support is on offer?

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?
On completion of this course you will gain the BTEC Level 2 First Award in Principles and Application of Applied Science which will allow you to progress onto the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Applied Science or the Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic & Criminal Investigation providing you gain an overall Distinction grade on the Level 2 course. This course also gives you the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for working life.
