What are the entry requirements?

Our Getting to Grips with Maths is intended for students who have not achieved a maths qualification before, would like to start from the beginning and achieve a maths qualification by the end of the course.
Prior to the start of the course starting you will be invited to attend an interview with a member of staff, during the interview you will complete an online initial and paper based assessment, both of which will be used to assess your numeracy skills and the level of course suitable for your needs .
For the duration of the first 4 weeks, you are enrolled on an intro to Functional Skills maths and will be taught the essential skills to help you progress on to the main Entry level Functional Skill qualification. At the end of the 4 weeks, you will complete a progress assessment and receive a 1 to 1 with your tutor to discuss which qualification is suitable to support your needs.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by two externally set formal examinations at an appropriate time in the course when your tutor feels you have made enough progress. In addition to the external examinations, you will undertake assessments every 4 weeks to help you prepare for the exam and to monitor your progress. Your tutor will provide you with regular feedback throughout the course and will always be on hand if you need help.
