Course overview
During the intensive 72 hour Edexcel (9-1) GCSE in Mathematics course, you will develop maths skills which are fit for the modern world. You will develop mathematical independence through reasoning and problem solving skills which are presented in authentic contexts. The course will follow 6 key content headings, these will include:• Number,
• Algebra,
• Ratio, proportion and rates of change,
• Geometry and measures,
• Probability
• Statistics.
You will be supported throughout your journey on the GCSE course by your tutor, but it is really important you have a real commitment to achieving the qualification. While studying your will be expected to attend weekly 3 hour lessons and complete an additional 4 hours of weekly self-study learning through homework and online resources made available to you by your tutor. You will be required to purchase a maths set and take 3 formal exams which will take place at the end of May and beginning of June, the exact dates will be communicated to you when you start your course.

You will be required to hold at least a Level 1 Functional Skills Maths qualification or GCSE maths grade D/3. Your existing maths skills will be assessed through a variety of assessments prior to the course starting to ensure you are able to attain a GCSE 4 or above. The assessments will include an interview, online initial assessment and written baseline assessment.
For the duration of the first 7 weeks, you are enrolled on an intro to GCSE Mathematcs and will be taught the essential skills to help you progress on to the main GCSE qualification. At the end of the 7 weeks, you will complete a progress assessment and receive a 1 to 1 with your tutor to discuss which qualification is suitable to support your needs and aspirations.

How is it assessed?
You will be assessed by three externally set examinations at the end of May and beginning of June 2018. In addition you will be internally assessed every 5 weeks through in class controlled assessments with your tutor to monitor your progress. Feedback and actions will be provided after each assessment, with online resources available to further develop your weaker skills.
