Course overview

During the intensive 42 hour Edexcel (9-1) GCSE in Mathematics course, you will develop maths skills which are fit for the modern world. You will develop mathematical independence through reasoning and problem solving skills which are presented in authentic contexts. The course will follow 6 key content headings, these will include:

• Number,
• Algebra,
• Ratio, proportion and rates of change,
• Geometry and measures,
• Probability
• Statistics.

You will be supported throughout your journey on the GCSE course by your tutor, but it is really important you have a real commitment to achieving the qualification. Whilst studying, you will be expected to attend weekly 3 hour lessons and complete an additional 6 hours of weekly self-study learning through homework and online resources made available to you by your tutor. You will be required to purchase a maths set and take three formal exams which will take place on 20th May 22, 7th June 22 and 13th June 22.

What else do I need to know?

Please note that courses run subject to minimum viable class sizes. Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expenses.

What are the entry requirements?

GCSE Maths fast track course is intended for students who have robust numeracy skills, but have not previously obtained a GCSE Mathematics certificate at grade C/4 or above.

Prior to the course starting you will be invited in to attend an interview with a member of staff, during the interview you will complete an online initial and paper based assessment, both of which will be used to assess your numeracy skills and suitability for the fast Track course.

For the duration of the first 4 weeks, you are enrolled on an intro to GCSE maths and will be taught the essential skills to help you progress on to the main GCSE qualification. At the end of the 4 weeks, you will complete a progress assessment and receive a 1 to 1 with your tutor to discuss which qualification is suitable to support your needs and aspirations.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by three externally set examinations taking place on the 20th May 22, 7th June 22 and 13th June 22. All exams will require you to attend college between 8am until 12pm and it is important you plan in these dates if you have external commitments.

In addition to the external examinations, you will undertake internal controlled assessments every 4 weeks to monitor your progress and provide you with regular feedback.
