Course overview

Learners will enjoy a variety of units, all of which focuses on employability skills. It is designed to introduce learners to the world of work and explore options for next steps and employment. Units include:

- ICT for employment
- Understanding conflict at work
- Working in a team
- Understanding mindset
- Making the right impression at work

Learners will have the opportunity to develop their employability skills by taking part in a work experience placement. This placement will be in addition to the curriculum and organised by our Work Experience Co-ordinator. Learners will slect their enrichment opportunity from team games, gardening or performing arts and further develop their cooking skills.

What else do I need to know?

We take part in a range of activities that strengthen the curriculum and give learners the opportunity to develop a host of both employability skills and personal, health and social skills. Working closely with our communities we develop relationships which offer the opportunity to network and plan exciting, sustainable projects.

What are the entry requirements?

Our Life Skills and Employment Training curriculum offers opportunities for learners who are working at Entry 1 to Entry 3. Learners who access this provision have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and join the college to develop their life skills and employability prospects.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

Our goal is to prepare learners for adulthood. Although we cannot guarantee employment, we work extremely hard to ensure learners ar in the best possible place to access opportunities for employment, increase independent living skills and increase community inclusion.
