Course overview
The OCN NI Level 1 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills qualification is aimed to introduce learners to the concept and purpose of counselling, as well as the ethical considerations and skills used in a counselling situation. Learners must successfully complete both units in the qualification for a total of 3 credits.Furthermore this award aims to rovide you with the basic counselling skills and underpinning knowledge required to progress on to higher level Counselling qualifications. Topics will include, how counselling can be used in conjunction with other therapies and treatments, benefits and limitations of counselling, skills and attributes of an effective counsellor, barriers to effectice communication in a counselling situation and how to apply counselling to a range of scenarios.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
How is it assessed?
Learners must successfully complete two units in the qualification for a total of three credits.
The units are as follows:
1)Introduction to Counselling
2)Introduction to Counselling skills.
Throughout the course you will build up a portfolio of evidence to confirm your understanding of the key counselling topics, including written assignments and a personal journal. Your tutor will provide you with ongoing support and constructive feedback for each assignment you submit.
