Course overview
This vocational hands-on course is tailored for those who wish to pursue a career within the Creative Industry, specifically Photography or Digital Media. Focusing on technical and conceptual knowledge, the course enables learners to prepare a high quality and individual portfolio for entry onto higher education programmes or directly into industry / employment.You will work on a range of projects over a two year, full-time course. The course normally runs over three days within the college week. All students are expected to give significant time to their studies outside college. Real world work experience opportunities will be part of your programme as will independent study.
What else do I need to know?
Learner Enrichment is at the core of the two-year course, with various trips organised each year to visit galleries and exhibitions which have included London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Residential trips abroad to destinations including Berlin or Barcelona are possible.As part of the programme we run workshops involving industry professionals to enance students experience and knowledge of the professional industry. During the programme you will complete complete over 24 hrs of off site work experience, take part in local events such as the Staffs Fest Music Festival and the Stone Food and Drink Festival. You will also work with local clients, which have included 'Ewe Move' Estate Agents, The Gatehouse Theatre and Mr Simms Sweet Shop.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you’d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. You will also need a portfolio of images to discuss with us at your interview.
How is it assessed?
This is a hands on, practical qualification and you will be assessed throughout the programme at key assessment points. This may involve research, practical work, design and storyboards, digital presentations and contextual studies notes and reports. All assessments will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
What financial support is on offer?
This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?
Previous students have achieved places at leading universities, including Falmouth, Ravensbourne and Nottingham Trent to study Photography and Media related subjects. WE also offer internal HE progression via our level 4 HNC Digital Content Creation Course.Future employment opportunities may include Photo-Journalist, Freelance Photographer, Fashion Stylist, Picture Editor, Picture Researcher, Studio Photographer, Content Creator or Content Marketer.
