Course overview

The fashion industry has changed dramatically in the last decade. In recent years, the fashion and textiles industries have come under scrutiny for their destructive environmental, ethical and moral impacts on the world. Consumers as well as brands are now more conscious of sustainability in fashion. This course aims to teach responsible fashion, as well as challenging new ideas and concepts for this ever-changing industry. The aim of the course is to provide you with an introduction into the exciting world of Fashion. You will raise your awareness of the environmental, social, and ethical impacts on the industry. You will collaborate with others to generate innovative ideas and concepts for fashion. You will learn about the influences in fashion design, fashion promotion, styling, textiles, communication and trends. You will also explore some elements of garment construction. You will produce a portfolio of creative and technical skills that will showcase everything you need for a direct application to HE.

What else do I need to know?

You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of educational visits to relevant exhibitions and galleries as well as market research activities to gain an understanding of target markets, trends and influences within Fashion. You will need a selection of fashion based materials, including drawing equipment, and scissors for paper and fabric.
