Course overview

Building on skills and research topics introduced in the introductory programme, this 26 week Level 2 course will help you understand the importance of research in the design process, how to evaluate the quality of your work and how to select materials, pattern cut and construct garments. As well as specialist technical units, there is a mandatory unit which introduces you to industry practices, career pathways and opportunities with the thriving UK fashion sector.

What else do I need to know?

The course will be delivered face to face in a specialist studio, but you will need to undertake up to 3 hrs per week independent study to complete all coursework units successsfully.

What are the entry requirements?

Students undertaking this programme must have first completed the 5 week Introduction to Creative Industries (Fashion) programme.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed via a portfolio of practical work. You will receive feedback on one mandatory and 4 optional coursework units covering pattern cutting, design and specialist teachniques. Verbal feedback will be given by expert staff on an ongoing basis with more formal written feedback at the end of each course unit. This 'Gateway' Level 2 Certificate is also subject to external moderation.

What financial support is on offer?

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group is pleased to be able to offer financial support to help students meet the costs of attending College.
If you are on state benefits or are on a low income you may be entitled to fee remission towards your course. *This is at the Colleges discretion.

What can I do next?

You could make an application to study at HE level on our HNC in Fashion and Textile Design here at Stafford College, or use your portfolio and skills to look for work in the industry or establish yourself as an independent designer.
