Course overview
This 5 week ceramics class is suitable for all levels of ability from beginners to those who have previous experience of working with clay. A purely recreational course for those with a level of creative ability seeking to develop their skills with specialist support and guidance in state of the art facilities. This course can be very much tailored to you, your skill level and creative aspirations. Those who are new to the subject will learn a range of hand building techniques, including slab-building, coiling, press-moulding and throwing on the potter’s wheel. The course will also cover surface decoration techniques, principles of the firing processes and safe studio practice. The classes are focused on learning techniques and developing creativity within a supportive and fun environment.
You will be taught through group demonstration and one to one guidance in a friendly and supportive studio environment. Clay is a wonderful material to work with – it is naturally a tactile material which will enable you to explore your creativity in a multi-faceted manner. Eventually through practice you will discover your own particular niche and preferred ways of working which you can then develop further.
Students are given the option of working from a set project or, if they have prior experience they can work in a more independent manner.
