Course overview
The course aims to equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress onto further education courses in the Art & Design sector.. You will gain a qualification to enable you to progress onto a Level 2 programme or possibly an Apprenticeship. It will also help you to develop employability skills, which can be used later in all forms of employment. The course also focuses on improving learners’ skills in Maths and English. This is a one year, full-time course. If you plan to progress to a Level 2 course you will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level of improvement in English and maths by the end of the year.What else do I need to know?
Additional learning opportunities may include visits to a range of Art & Design settings. Guest speakers from local employers will provide you with a information on a range of career opportunities and an insight into the sector.What are the entry requirements?
You will have two GCSEs at grade 2 or below. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.
How is it assessed?
You must pass all the units to gain this qualification. To pass each unit you will produce a portfolio of evidence including a range of written assignment work, presentations, project work, group work and practical-based assessments.
What financial support is on offer?

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?
Having successfully completed this course you could progress to a Level 2 qualification in Art & Design, you may decide to go on to do other further education courses.
