Course overview

This full time, one year course is perfect if you want to work in engineering operations. Engineering is seen as one of the most important industries in the world as it helps create change in society through technological breakthroughs. The government are heavily investing in the sector to avoid any skill gaps in the future. You can also prove your ability in areas of the industry such as fabrication, welding and materials processing. You will come to college four days a week and also take part in work experience to give you the best chance to get a job in the engineering operations industry after completing your course. Areas you will learn about include engineering operations, English, maths, work experience, business ideas and problem solving. You will first be assessed in English and maths before starting the course. Learn basic fitting, turning and welding techniques Learn how to use measuring and inspection equipment Recognise and use tools and equipment within an engineering environment Develop employability skills required for working within engineering Be introduced to all aspects of health and safety

What are the entry requirements?

You will have 2 GCSEs at grade 2 or above. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by the use of practical assessments and assignments that will form part of a portfolio of your work. You will also complete practical and theory tests at the end of your training course.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

You can go on to our NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations course or a similar course. You can sign up to an intermediate level apprenticeship.
