Course overview

The course consists of three units. Unit 401 is a knowledge only unit assessed by a written assignment and professional discussion. In addition you will be expected to attend theory days where you will gain the knowledge required. Theory days will be run at various times during the year. Unit 402 and 403 will be conducted on a 1-1 basis and will vary according to your work role. In order to achieve this certificate you must lead the internal quality assurance processes within your department.

What else do I need to know?

This course runs on a rolling programme throughout the year and is delivered on a one to one basis. There are no specific start dates. The course takes between 3 and 6 months to complete.

Please note that theory days run subject to minimum viable class sizes. Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expenses.

What are the entry requirements?

All applicants must hold a minimum Level 3 subject specific qualification relevant to the area there are Internally quality assuring. Also required is an assessor qualification such as TAQA Level 3 Certificate or V1. You must also demonstrate that you are working at L2 in literacy. In addition you must have access to at least two assessors and have a proven track record of assessing and quality assurance. Finally you will need a qualified Lead IQA to support you during the course.

How is it assessed?

Attending theory sessions is mandatory. After that for up to 15 weeks, assessment will be through observations and tutorials.

What financial support is on offer?

You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or Higher Education Loan to help with the costs of your course if you are 19 or older and the course you are studying is an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course.

What can I do next?

After successful completion of the course students will become a qualified internal quality assurance assessor and can continue with their current employer or alternatively they can choose to pursue further study at the College.
