Course overview

The course aims to equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to embark on training to work with young children. You will gain a qualification to enable you to progress onto a Level 2 programme or possibly an Apprenticeship. It will also help you to develop employability skills, which can be used later in all forms of employment. The course also focuses on improving learners’ skills in Maths and English. This is a one year, full-time course.
The units you will study include Communication Skills with Children, Planning for the Physical and Emotional Care Needs of Children, Creative Activities for Young Children and Keeping Children Safe. You will attend maths and English classes where you will improve your skills whilst working towards an end of year exam. If you plan to progress to a Level 2 course you will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level of improvement in English and maths by the end of the year.
