Course overview
The course aims to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to begin to explore career opportunities within the business and IT sector. You will gain a qualification that enables progression onto a Level 2 programme and will also help you to develop employability skills, which will be useful in all areas of employment. The course also focuses on improving skills in maths, English and IT. . If you plan to progress to a Level 2 course you will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level of improvement in maths and English by the end of the year.What else do I need to know?
Additional learning opportunities may include visits to local employers and guest speakers from the industry coming into classes to give advice on career opportunities within the business and ICT industries.What are the entry requirements?
You will have 2 GCSEs at grade 2 or below. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.
How is it assessed?
You must pass all the units to gain the Extended Certificate. To pass each unit you will produce a portfolio of evidence including a range of written assignment work, presentations, project work, group work and practical-based assessments.
What financial support is on offer?

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?
Having successfully completed this course you could progress to a Level 2 qualification in Business Administration or IT, you may decide to go on to do other further education courses. If you feel that you have the ability to develop a range of skills, techniques and aptitudes essential for successful performance in the retail or business sector then this is the course for you.
