Course overview

This full time course is perfect if you want to work in IT. Information technology is a central part of any business and continues to grow in size year on year. Its a sector which could take you inside any company giving you the freedom to find a career in an area youll love working in. You will come to college four days a week and also take part in work experience to give you the best chance to get a job in the IT industry after completing your course. Areas you will learn about include IT, English, maths, work experience, business ideas and problem solving. You will first be assessed in English and maths before starting the course. Learn about setting up a computer system Improve your spreadsheet and word processing skills Learn how to design websites Improve your productive using IT

What are the entry requirements?

You will have two GCSEs at grade 2 or below. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.

Progressing students will also need to demonstrate good attendance and punctuality and to have been on a work experience placement.

How is it assessed?

The main programme is assessed via a completed portfolio of work and functional skills are assessed via end of year examination where appropriate.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £23,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

You can go on to our BTEC First Extended Diploma in Information and Creative Technology Level 2 course or a similar course. You can sign up to an intermediate level apprenticeship or continue to build on your English and math skills.
