Course overview

The Access to Health Professionals Diploma is a Level 3 qualification designed to give students a direct progression route into allied health and care degrees including all four nursing pathways, paramedic science, occupational therapy, midwifery, physiotherapy, psychology, dental nursing, veterinary nursing, radiography, health studies or a HNC in Health and Social Care.

While studying on the course, you will learn Biology, Health Studies, Psychology and Study Skills. Each subject is broken down into a number of graded units over the length of the course, towards the end of each unit you will produce an assignment to evidence what you have learnt. Our supportive teachers will use a variety of methods to help you achieve and learn independently within some units.

The course will be delivered through a combination of face to face and some online learning. You will be expected to attend taught lessons on two evenings each week with the online elements completed independantly at a time that suits each learner.

Initially all successful applicants will be invited to a two part taster session to learn more about which careers an Access to HE course can lead to. Following this you will attend one return to learn day where you will get an introduction to the teaching staff, content of the course, be taught some introductory sessions from the modules you will study, initial assessments, along with advise on how to start to formulate your personal statements.

What else do I need to know?

A student loan may be applied for in order to cover the full cost of the course. On successful completion of the Access to HE Diploma and successful completion of a degree level course at university, this initial student loan will be wiped out! Therefore you are having the course for FREE! Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expenses.

What are the entry requirements?

You are required to have a GCSE in maths and English language at a minimum grade 4/C or above. During the interview process, you will receive an in-depth one to one interview where you will discuss any other qualifications and/or industry experience, along with advice and guidance as to the programme best suited for you. It is essential that you prepare for your interview by researching the entry requirements for your future degree course as this varies from course to course.

All applicants need to be 18 or over from the 31st August 2022.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a range of assessment methods such as essays, academic posters, presentations, group work and other types of coursework. Your teachers will guide and support you through each assessment so that you can develop, improve and progress throughout the course.

What financial support is on offer?

Do not be put off by the cost of the course, as an Advanced Learning Loan is open to anyone aged over 19 studying a Level 3 or above qualification, is not means tested or subject to credit checks and you only start to pay it back when you are earning over £25,000 per year.
If you successfully complete your Access to HE course, progress onto and complete a degree level programme, you do not have to pay back your Advanced Learning Loan.
If you are aged 19-23 and studying your first full-time Level 3 programme your course will be completely free. For full details visit www.nscg.ac.uk/finance.
