Students from Stafford College who recently took part in the 2019 British Culinary Federation (BCF) national finals at University College Birmingham have won ‘Best Front of House Team’ award.


The awards took place on Tuesday 2 April and the winning team of two chefs and a waiter comprised of Level 3 Professional Cookery Students Emily Stanier and Kyle Cooper and Level 3 Hospitality Supervision student Jamie Sutton.

As part of the competition, the students had to design a menu and submit a written submission around the brief provided by BCF and then practice the dishes before their final submission to ensure they had a good and balanced menu that represents the College’s style of cooking. The menu, served with complimentary wines, comprised of the following:

Starter – Eggs and Asparagus on Toast

Main Course – Roasted Hake, Chorizo, Squid Risotto, Puffed Black Rice

Sweet – Chocolate and Passion Fruit

The BCF Student Cook & Serve Team Challenge, which is open to all full-time and part-time students is now in its nineteenth year, with students from Stafford College, part of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group, successfully making the final for a fourth year in a row.

On winning the award, the students were presented with a trophy and set of professional copper pans. Hospitality Lecturer and Restaurant Manager at Stafford College, Richard Allan said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent of our students, they have shown huge passion and commitment towards the College and the Hospitality industry as a whole. The competition was of a very high standard and the team were up against some of the best hospitality and catering colleges in the UK. To compete with these colleges is a credit to our students and the hard work they have put in.”
