HNC Sport and Andy Griffin Football Academy student, Beth Roberts has made her England Young Lionesses debut this month after being named in the UEFA Women's U19 Championship squad.
The defender, part of a 20-player squad that played three matches during their time abroad, had already had an incredibly successful year, playing for both the AGFA and Stoke City FC Women and in March was named 'Player of the Tournament' at the Il Cacio E’Rosa 2019 competition in Italy where she was called up as part of the English Colleges Football Associations (ECFA) national squad.
The opening match of the qualifiers in Mogilev, Belarus saw the team demolish Cyprus 8-0, followed a 3-0 win of the home nation Belarus on Saturday 5 October and a 6-0 win over Serbia on Tuesday 8 October. Wins in all three games, secured the Young Lionesses continuation in the UEFA Women's U19 Championship and the full 9 points on offer.
Andy Griffin, Head Coach of the AGFA squad said: “Representing your country at a national level is a great privilege and Beth has proven she's got what it takes to showcase her skills on an international stage. Her achievements really highlight what the Andy Griffin Football Academy has to offer in developing grassroots footballing talent and give them the skills and motivation to push ahead and reach the top of their game.”
Having placed top of their group the Young Lionesses will now enter the elite round draw on Thursday 21 November. The elite qualifying round is scheduled for next spring with the eight-team finals taking place in Georgia in July 2020.
