Sport & Public Services Team in the running to win Pearson National Teaching Award for Further Education Team of the Year

The team were nominated for a Silver Award in The Award for Further Education Team of the Year. They have seen a number of successes over the past few years, despite having had to transport nearly 300 learners to sports facilities 2.5 miles away from the college on a weekly basis for an entire year. Aside from purely teaching, the team put together a varied enrichment programme to appeal to all students including links with Staffordshire Police, The Armed Forces, Stafford Sports Performance and Dance Academy, Stafford Special Olympics and Stafford Town F.C.

The team is in the running to be one of the Silver Award winners. These will then compete to win one of just 14 Gold Awards which will be announced at the televised UK ceremony later in the year, broadcast on the BBC as ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, founded in 1998 by Lord David Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.

Since the merger of Stafford College and Newcastle College in November 2016 the Sport & Public Services Team at NSCG has gone from strength-to-strength with fantastic growth in recruitment numbers, achievement, value added and learner outcomes. Despite facing a number of challenges this year, the team have maintained a relentless focus on delivering a first rate experience for students and dedication to delivering the NSCG ethos ‘committed to excellence’. We are proud to be shortlisted and look forward to progressing to the next phase of judging.”
