Jordan Thompson, aged 20 is currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Football Coaching and Development at Stafford College, having previously completed the HNC/D Sport course. Here Jordan tells us about his experiences of studying Higher Education at NSCG.
Q.Why did you decide to do this course?
I had previously completed the HNC/D Sport which I really enjoyed and I then decided to continue my education and study at degree level. The final year is primarily football based and having a real passion for the sport, this was my main motivation for choosing the course.
I have also worked as a sports coach for ministry4sport for three years so my experience in education and in the real world of work has really helped me.
Q.How did the course motivate you to think about your future career?
The opportunity to complete a sports coaching degree really excited me and has confirmed that this is the industry I want to work in long-term. The practical side of the course has really enhanced my skills and knowledge and I am now a scout and steward for Stoke City FC.
Q.How has the course helped you in your career so far?
The course has helped me to develop my knowledge as a coach and it has enabled me to coach regularly throughout the year. With the support and advice of my lecturers, I have been accepted onto the UEFA B coaching course which I am really proud of. This is an opportunity that I probably wouldn't of been given if I had not been on this course.
Q.And your biggest achievement so far?
Getting a place on the UEFA B course has to be my biggest achievement to date. I hope that this opportunity will give me an advantage over other students and maximise my career prospects in the future.
Q.What would you say to other people in your position who are looking to study Higher Education at NSCG?
The course available is brilliant for those students who don't like working in big groups or sitting in lectures. It offers better 1-2-1 support, access to fantastic facilities and a range of pathways in a practical working environment. I really would recommend the course to anyone thinking about studying at NSCG."
