Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) offers a wide-range of apprenticeships across all industry sectors, so you can earn whilst you learn. We chatted to Moog Aircraft Group to hear all about the exciting apprenticeships they offer at their base near Wolverhampton.

Q. How many apprentices do you currently employ at Moog Wolverhampton?

A. We currently employee 22 Apprentices at Moog Wolverhampton. We also have Apprentices at our Tewkesbury facility.

Q. Typically, what kind of roles are available to apprentices across the business?

A. We offer both Craft (Manufacturing) and Technical Engineering Apprenticeships. Both routes are extremely valuable and can lead to a number of skilled opportunities and career progression in to operational, technical, and managerial roles. Apprentices rotate around the business to see different departments and disciplines and are supported by their line manager and a dedicated mentor. Opportunities are endless at Moog! We aim to understand the career aspirations of our Apprentices to collate individual development and training plans.

We are looking to expand our Apprenticeship offerings to other areas of the business, including business development, programme management, contracts, supply chain and quality.

Q. What are the benefits to Moog of offering apprenticeships? (e.g filling a skills gap/fresh new ideas)

A. Apprentices are part of our Early Careers framework and are crucial to our Talent Pipeline. We really enjoy bringing fresh eyes and ears in to the business to question, raise new ideas and share knowledge and learning from education in new technologies. Apprentices are crucial in enabling Moog to move forward and keep ahead in an ever evolving and developing industry. We have a brilliant retention rate with our Apprentices and with Apprentices securing roles post completion of their Apprenticeships. Many of our former Apprentices have moved in to crucial and critical roles within our business; continuing to grow and move us forward as an employer of choice and leader in Aerospace.

Q. How has your apprenticeship programme developed over time working with NSCG?

A. Working with NSCG has been great. A few years back we were disengaged and were looking for a new, fresh thinking provider who was keen to understand our business, industry and need for Apprenticeships. I think that we have built a good working relationship with Lisa and the Team at NSCG. We are also proud to be a core employer for the IOT bid! We can’t wait to move this forward and see our relationship growing stronger in the coming years.

Q. What training opportunities are on offer to your apprentices?

A. Our Apprentices are provided with a number of personal and professional training opportunities during their Apprenticeship and after completion. We are keen to understand each Apprentice and their individual needs. We look to offer skills based training as well as courses in soft skills via internal and external providers. Our Apprentices are also encouraged to support our STEM agenda, local partnerships and in recruiting new Apprentices and hires to join Moog Wolverhampton.

Q. How can apprentices progress within your business on completion of their apprenticeship? (i.e Advanced Apprenticeships)

A. On completing an Apprenticeship at Moog Wolverhampton, Advanced Apprenticeships can be considered. Job opportunities are explored as well as on the job and additional learning. We invest in our Apprentices during and post completion of their Apprenticeship.
