NSCG's Sport & Public Services Team Wins Prestigious National Teaching Award

The team have seen a number of successes over the past few years, despite challenges with delivering practical sessions at a site 2.5 miles away from the main campus in academic year 2019/20. Aside from purely teaching, the team put together an exciting and varied enrichment programme to appeal to all students including links with Staffordshire Police, The Armed Forces, Stafford Sports Performance and Dance Academy, Stafford Special Olympics and Stafford Town F.C.

The team is now in the running for one of just 14 Gold Awards later in the year, in a programme which will be broadcast on the BBC. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the exceptional teaching staff who have worked wonders during an incredibly challenging time for educators across the country.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, founded in 1998 by Lord Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they work with. This year marks its 22^nd year of celebrating, award-winning teachers, teaching assistants, headteachers and lecturers across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

“We are absolutely delighted that the NSCG Sport and Public Services Team has been recognised as a silver award winner in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards. Since the merger between Stafford College and Newcastle College in November 2016 the Stafford College team has gone from strength-to-strength with fantastic growth in student numbers, achievement rates and learner outcomes. Despite facing a number of challenges last year, the team always maintained a relentless focus on delivering a first rate experience for students and dedication to delivering the NSCG ethos ‘committed to excellence’. I was extremely proud and honoured to present the silver award to Curriculum Manager, Mark Kent and his team earlier today on behalf of Pearson UK.”
