Hairdressing students from Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) are celebrating after scooping 4 awards and the College coming third overall at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) semi-finals held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Monday 4 February.

Level 2 Hairdressing apprentices from Newcastle College, Sophie Fife and Emily Lewis, impressed judges after competing in the Commercial Blow-dry category, where they finished in first and third place respectively. Level 3 Hairdressing apprentice, Chloe Meir, also from Newcastle College came first place in the Ladies Commercial Cut and Finish category.
Level 2 Hairdressing student from Stafford College, Gabi Hill came first in the Fantasy Hair and Makeup category, dazzling the judges with her finished look. While Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup student Libby Newport and Level 3 Hairdressing student, Ben Barrington-Evans, came second for their efforts in the Team Bridal category.
All six students will go now head-to-head with students from across the UK in the national finals, due to take place Monday 11 March at the same venue.
The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support. Members of the AHT include teachers, trainers or assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who are either working towards or currently hold teaching/assessing qualifications.
On the success of the students, Lorraine Drayton, Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing at NSCG, said: “By competing in high profile regional competitions such as these, our students gain valuable experience that they can use to help them progress in the workplace. The students did themselves and the College proud and the latest collection of awards shows just how hard they have been working and demonstrated some amazing work. We can’t wait to see how they do in the finals in March.”
