8th April 2021
It was announced today (8 April 2021) that NSCG Stafford College is to become one of 16 colleges in England to benefit from the Government’s £1.5 billion FE Capital Transformation Fund. The fund, launched by the Prime Minister in September 2020 aims to rebuild and transform college estates and create modern, fit-for-purpose spaces that meet the needs of the students and communities they serve.
The exact funding, which is yet to be confirmed, will contribute towards a multimillion-pound Skills and Innovation Hub, which will take pride of place on the Earl Street/Broad Street elevation of the College’s current campus. The state-of-the-art, 3 storey, 8,000 square metre development has been expertly designed to provide future learners with leading edge construction, engineering and hybrid vehicle technology workshops, along with innovatively designed social spaces, a 4-court sports hall, gym and 300-seat auditorium.
Work on the development, which received full planning approval from Stafford Borough Council in 2019, is now set to commence later this year, and has a target completion date of winter 2022.
Karen Dobson OBE, Principal & Chief Executive of Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group, said: “We are delighted to be one of the 16 colleges in England to benefit from the Government’s FE Capital Transformation Fund. Since NSCG formed in 2016, we have been committed to the ongoing transformation of the Stafford College campus, with the aim of providing learners with first class facilities befitting of an Outstanding college. The announcement allows us to press ahead with our ambitious plans to develop a state-of-the-art Skills and Innovation Hub, which will undoubtedly bring many benefits to the local economy and the future students and families who will become part of our college community.”
Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Gillian Keegan said: “It is fantastic news that we are launching the next phase of this transformation programme, working with a small number of colleges that are some of the most in need of support to upgrade and revitalise their estates. As we recover from the pandemic, it is vital our colleges continue to be great places to learn with excellent facilities. Our priority is making sure every student receives high quality education and training, no matter where they live, so they can gain the skills they need to progress into work and help the economy to rebuild and grow.”
Our students love being a part of NSCG and together we’re always sharing their college experiences and achievements for everyone to see, and more importantly, for you to see. Their world. Their freedom. Their joy. Their life. Their excitement. Make it yours. #MyNSCG
