7th June 2022

Kind hearted painting and decorating student, Inma Lias recently volunteered her time and skills to join the crew of BBC DIY SOS on a 2-week build in Fegg Hayes in Stoke-on-Trent to create a Community Garden Project.

During February half term, having seen the call-out for volunteers to join in and help to complete the project on time, Inma quickly volunteered her services as a labourer.

Here Inma tells us all about being involved...

Inma Lias

Q. Why did you decide to volunteer be a part of DIY SOS?

A. I thought it would be a brilliant thing to be involved in and a positive thing to do for my community.

Q. What were your main duties during the filming?

A. I mentioned that I had painting and decorating experience and that I was happy to do labouring work. The first four days mainly included building the amphitheatre which would be used for school visits.

Q. Were you required to work long days to ensure the project was completed on time?

A. Yes, most days I worked from 7.30am until 6pm, and one evening, I was on-site until 9.30pm. I chose to volunteer during my week off at half term in February and around my studies at college. The weather was really bad at times, so this was the biggest challenge.

Q. What was the best thing about working on this project?

A. I got to meet lots of new people and have lots of laughs, while of course creating an amazing project which will hopefully be used for many years to come. I have found volunteering a really worthwhile thing to do and I often volunteer at weekends to help out.

This episode of DIY SOS will be aired on BBC One on Tuesday 7 June at 8pm.
