Music Performance and Music Production learners from Newcastle and Stafford campuses came together on Wednesday 9 March to attend the annual NSCG Performing Arts Music Show for a day of seminars and masterclasses from music industry professionals.

Learners had the opportunity to be involved in seminars and masterclasses from music industry professionals, giving them an insider's perspective of today’s music industry and what they can expect from a career in this creative and ever-changing industry.

First off, PRS gave students an insight into how musicians and producers can make a sustainable income from their music and how royalties are collected across the world. Meanwhile, Professional DJ’s and EDM producers Andrew aka Outrage and Raff aka Nurve delivered an important seminar on mental health and wellbeing in the music industry and spoke open and honestly about their own experiences within the music industry.

The group also welcomed Ben Benson, who delivered a talk on the work of the Musicians Union offering great advice to our music performance students. Andrew and Raff from Education and Bass delivered two masterclasses in DJing, Beat matching and production of EDM in Logic.

The day was bought to an end with a 'virtual' Q&A session over zoom with Billy Decker from his recording studio in Nashville. Billy, a mixing engineer who has sold over 25 million albums. Billy is renowned in the industry for mixing 14 US number 1’s and has worked with artists such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker and Sam Hunt. Billy answered students questions on the music industry, what life is like working in Nashville and gave students invaluable music production and mixing tips.
