From elaborate hair styles to incredible make-up, learners from both Newcastle College and Stafford College's Academy of Hairdressing and Beauty came together on Tuesday 24 May to demonstrate their creativity and technical skills in their end-of-year showcase event held at NSCG Newcastle College.

Friends, family and employer partners were invited along to NSCG Newcastle College to celebrate an incredible year within the department.

Students from Level 3 Hairdressing, Beauty and Media Make-up pathways demonstrated hair styling and media make-up techniques on their models who took to the catwalk wowing the audience of family, friends and employer partners from across the sector.

A variety of looks were showcased, from Hollywood 60's glamour to horror, fantasy and fashions, with learners required to create and present mood boards to visually display their thought processes and looks.

Makeup learner, Jordan Wood said "This evening was a great way to show parents and family members our work and our passion for makeup artistry. It's been an action-packed and emotional evening."

Commenting on her choice of hairstyle for the event, Level 3 Hairdressing learner Gulcin Akkurt said: "I enjoyed the planning of my 1960’s hairstyle and also enjoyed the catwalk, I have gained confidence and built my creativity skills."

Level 3 Hairdressing learner, Andrea Richards added; "It was a very nerve-wracking evening, but well worth the stress and hard work to show what we have learned at college this last year and to showcase our work to our families and employers."

Lorraine Drayton, Curriculum Manager for Hairdressing and Beauty at NSCG said: “This event is a fantastic way to showcase some of the very best skills our students have developed during their studies, thanks to their commitment and hard work. Both Newcastle and Stafford campuses offer learners the opportunity to learn and develop their skills, learn from our industry trained-staff in our commercial salons and take this knowledge into the salons they work in. We are so fortunate to be able to offer a range of professional and enrichment opportunities and connections from brands including Wella and Dermalogica. A huge thank you to all our students, staff and employer partners for all their efforts over the last year and for making this evening so special for everyone involved.”
