The whole NSCG community is so proud of all of our staff and students who have given up their time to support the wider community during COVID-19, using their skills and talent to help so many people.

A number of our Health and Social Care students are doing incredible volunteering work at the Royal Stoke University Hospital providing help and support to NHS staff during this challenging time. Chelsea Stevenson and Lucy Bennett are just two of our students who have already commenced their volunteering placements.

Lecturer Zoe Arrowsmith has also given up her time to volunteer on the Children’s Oncology unit providing support to the team and interacting with families which is such a vital part of the role.

Meanwhile, we are proud to support over 100 apprentices and adult learners both within the NHS and in local care settings. These learners are balancing professional commitment with care and compassion in supporting their patients and service users, and are an invaluable part of the community.

Libby Wilkinson, Learning Support Assistant at NSCG and her fiancé Richard Dallimore, have been doing some amazing work producing 3D printed face shields to help NHS staff and key workers. They have so far raised over £3,000 and as a result have been able to purchase additional printers providing crucial equipment to district nurses, hospitals across the Midlands, care homes, midwifery services and various local businesses including funeral directors.

Alex Carter, Roger Sharman and Ross Cooper from our highly skilled Engineering Department have been very busy producing PPE for local care providers. The team recently completed trials which convert acetate slides into PPE visors using a 3D printer. Bradwell Hall Nursing Home, Douglas Macmillan Hospice and Belong Village have all received the well-needed equipment to help them with their day-to-day duties.

And finally, Katie Jones, BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design student has been using her creative talent to produce 80+ ear savers for our dedicated NHS staff at the Royal Stoke and Leighton Hospitals and for patients and their families at the Dougie Mac Hospice.

Keep up the amazing work everyone!
