18th May 2020
This week, we are proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week 2020. The theme is kindness which is so relevant right now, as we all pull together during this pandemic.
So why was the theme of kindness chosen?
Kindness was chosen because of its singular ability to unlock our shared humanity. It strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity as we are tested to cope with COVID-19. Now more than ever, we need to support each other and a small act of kindness could mean the world to your family, friends and neighbours.
Kindness and Mental Health
Kindness is defined by doing something towards yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Research shows that kindness and our mental health are deeply connected. Being kind is a light relief and distraction for many of us while showing true community spirit. It helps reduce stress, boosts our self-esteem,brings a fresh perspective and deepens friendships. Kindness can even improve feelings of confidence and optimism.
Celebrate kindness
MHAW2020 is all about celebrating kindness and thinking of others. We have seen so many acts of kindness already during lockdown from our staff, students and wider community and we want to celebrate this during Mental Health Awareness Week 2020.
We are here for you
During MHAW 2020, we will be sharing just a few inspiring stories from those within our college community, whilst giving you hints and tips on how to look after your health and well being and that of your loved ones.
Our students love being a part of NSCG and together we’re always sharing their college experiences and achievements for everyone to see, and more importantly, for you to see. Their world. Their freedom. Their joy. Their life. Their excitement. Make it yours. #MyNSCG
