Level 3 Business students put their entrepreneurial skills to the test during final project

Every year, final year students take part in the annual ‘Dragon’s Lair’ competition pitching their business ideas to a number of local entrepreneurs, all hoping for them to ‘invest’ in their business, and be crowned the winner against fellow students.

Unfortunately, this year is a little different as the competition is unable to take place due to the Corona virus. This however, has not stopped the students from staying motivated and they have successfully completed their projects from home using their organisation and time management skills. Students have impressed teaching staff with their dedication and enthusiasm to produce a quality project, generating innovative and professional business plans.

Commenting on the project, Lecturer Daniel Turner said:“The initial task for our final year students was to come up with a small business idea and write a business plan for it. This is an important project for our students as they will be using all the skills and knowledge they have acquired over the two years of the course before they go off to University, Higher Apprenticeships or get jobs.

“We have 100 students who have worked effectively from home to build their business plans. I have been impressed by so many of the projects including plans for a gorilla marketing campaign for a gaming café, and an unusual social media campaign for the Café Bus - an antique bus with a pop-up café in it. This project is always a great opportunity for business students to test their entrepreneurial creativity and apply the skills they have learned whilst studying with us. We teach them right from the start that business is something which happens in the real world and our courses are excellent preparation for their future careers.”
