Student Governor and Students' Union President, Veruschka Mbai has been named 'Student of the Year' at the annual Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards which took place at glittering awards ceremony held at DoubleTree by Hilton on Thursday 14 July.

Each year the Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce aim to celebrate the best business talent in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire with a variety of awards that cover everything from new start-up businesses to multinational corporations - as well as awards for individual success.

Moving to the UK in March 2019, Veruschka has always wanted to pursue a career in Health & Social Care. Originally joining Stafford College on a Level 1 Health & Social Care programme, she has since progressed on to our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care, where she is described as an 'asset' to her cohort.

Veruschka is extremely committed to supporting those in need. She has set up a charity in Africa which aims to support young people who need food, water, resources and aid.

She also volunteers for Orlindi Orphanage as an advocate and supports young females in Namibia who have suffered from sexual abuse. This is an extremely challenging role, however Veruschka supports as many people as she can in order to offer reassurance and care.

Commenting on her award win, Verushka said: "Being named 'Student of the Year' has reminded me that winning gives you the ability to be able to make your family, friends and peers smile and look up to you. With consistency and most importantly discipline. Winning this prestigious award is a reminder that hard work beats talent."
