Hair and Media Make-up students showcase their talent in Easter competition

Aspiring Make-up Artist, Nikita Patel has been crowned the winner of Stafford College’s Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up Easter competition.

Nikhita was among the group of students who were challenged to create a piece of artwork to express how they are feeling during these unsettling times working to the brief, ‘The Past, Present and the Future’ using make-up, face and body painting and nail art.

She had stiff competition in the final by fellow students,Isabelle Clifford (2nd place) Danielle Taglione and Rachael Brambleby (Joint 3rd place) who were commended for their high quality of work and attention to detail.

Commenting on the high standard of entries, Lecturer Aimee Foster said: “I set this Easter competition for the students to express how these unprecedented times have personally affected them. This was a way for them to express emotional and mental feelings within the lock down. All of the students’ contributions were of an extremely high standard and all of the finalist’s work was delivered to an outstanding level, so well done to them all."

Nikhita has secured a place at the University College Birmingham to study BA (Hons) Specialist Hair and Media Make-up from September. Speaking about her love for the industry, Nikhita said: “I’ve always had a passion for Make-up. I love how small amounts of product can alter someone’s appearance and how the blending of colourful shadows can become a piece of art.

Initially, I was interested more in the glamour side of Make-up and how it can make your skin feel flawless and beautiful. I would often create looks on myself perfecting my skills using YouTube. I knew if wanted to stand out I’d have to do something unique and different to what other makeup artists are doing. This is when I decided to incorporate my art work into my makeup and practice body art, special effects, and prosthetics as well as glamour/fashion makeup.”

Speaking about her time at Stafford College, Nikhita added: “I wanted to secure a qualification in Make-up before starting University, so I enrolled on the Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup Course at Stafford College to gain work experience, learn the theory behind makeup and practise new skills and techniques. I have learnt so much during my time at Stafford College. My teachers Aimee & Kasy have given us so many opportunities and arranged lots of training programmes, which have allowed myself and the rest of the students to build confidence and prepare us for what the industry is really like. They have both give me an incredible amount of support during my studies.”
