Twelve months after receiving full planning approval from Stafford Borough Council, Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) have instructed contractors to commence with the demolition of previously mothballed buildings on the Earl Street and Broad Street elevation of the town-centre campus, to make way for a brand new state-of-the-art £23M Skills and Innovation Hub.

The ambitious scheme, which has a targeted completion date of academic year 2022/23, will see the construction of a 7,500 sq metre, 3 storey facility, equipped with leading edge equipment and state-of-the-art skills, construction, engineering and motor vehicle facilities, along with a 4 court sports hall, gym and 300-seat auditorium.

Craig Hodgson, Vice Principal: Finance & Corporate Developments at NSCG, said: "The project progress naturally slowed down during the lockdown period, but we are delighted that works have commenced again in recent weeks. The new development was very well received by stakeholders during the consultation period and the current demolition works mark an exciting juncture for the project. We see the demolition, for which we received capital funding from the Department for Education, as the first phase of the scheme and we are hopeful that phase two, the redevelopment, will commence from April onwards. The target completion date for the Skills and Innovation Hub is summer 2022, and we remain positive about the many benefits it will bring to the local economy and the future students and families who will become part of our college community."

Project Management Team, Abison Young have contracted Connell Brothers to complete demolition works and Preston Brooks-based architects, Ellis Williams, have developed the scheme design, having worked on previous projects for NSCG.
