On behalf of the entire College community, we send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gordon Banks OBE, who sadly passed away overnight, at the age of 81.

Gordon not only dedicated his name to our Sports Centre, he also selflessly gave countless hours of his time to visit the College, support events and speak to students and staff. Involved in numerous student award ceremonies, student Q&A's and filming projects over the years, Gordon was a very dear friend of the College and he will be greatly missed by many.

In 2016, to coincide with the College's 50th anniversary celebrations and the anniversary of England winning the World Cup, a statue of Gordon was unveiled at the College's Gordon Banks Sports Centre. Designed by local sculptor Andy Edwards, the statue featured a lifelike bust of Gordon along with a cast of his famous goalkeeping hands.

Gordon will forever be remembered as England’s greatest goalkeeper, a true gentleman and a huge inspiration to many. Thank you for the memories Gordon.
