Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) business student Iuliana Sorica was selected from hundreds of nominated students to undertake a prestigious event management work placement at the AoC Annual Conference 2019.

The conference, which took place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham between 19 – 20 November, saw some of the biggest names from further education, business, government, media and beyond, gather to discuss and debate issues and opportunities facing colleges across the country.
Romanian-born student Iuliana came to the UK with English as her second language and whilst she was initially cautious of the demands of her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma course, has quickly adapted to become one of the top performing students on the programme. She was nominated to undertake a work experience placement at the conference by her lecturer, as a result of her excellent academic achievement and the positive, enthusiastic way in which she embraces new opportunities.
Commenting on the placement, Iuliana said: “I was really pleased when my Lecturer, Charlotte Thompson nominated me for an event management role at the conference, as I’m looking to go into marketing and events in the future, so this was a really invaluable opportunity.”
She added: “I’m passionate about business, marketing and events, so the conference allowed me to experience the best aspects of all three. I was tasked with monitoring workshops, encouraging delegates to download and use the AoC app to enhance their conference experience and with providing a warm welcome to visitors.”
NSCG students are required to complete a number of hours of work experience as part of their overall study programme to allow them to develop a number of transferable skills which they can take forward into their post college jobs, apprenticeships or into higher education.
Business Lecturer, Charlotte Thompson said: “Iuliana has an extremely conscientious and energetic approach to her studies and an impetus to get involved in new challenges. A natural leader, with a cheerful disposition, she applies herself 100% to all tasks undertaken, as a result, I’m confident she will have made a big impression and positive contribution at the AoC Conference. She is a fantastic student who will no doubt go on to a bright future in marketing and event management.”
Our students love being a part of NSCG and together we’re always sharing their college experiences and achievements for everyone to see, and more importantly, for you to see. Their world. Their freedom. Their joy. Their life. Their excitement. Make it yours. #MyNSCG
