NSCG Level 3 Nail Service apprentice Penny Clarke achieved 3rd place in the AHT National Hair & Beauty competition.

Due to the current restrictions in place the competition took place as a photographic competition. The task was to create an advanced nail art mirror image with a theme of 3D/4D flowers using glass or clear tips design either on a body part or using a model. Penny chose a bridal theme, created 3D flowers from acrylic incorporated netting and an ombre design.

Commenting on her achievement, Penny said: “I’m so pleased with my achievement! AHT is a national competition and hundreds of hair and beauty students enter. The model I used was actually my boyfriend so I’m really grateful to him!”

Sally Hughes, Beauty Work Based Assessor at NSCG, said: “Competing in the AHT competition alongside other colleges is a great opportunity not only for learners to showcase all their hard work but to help promote their skills to the industry.

Penny has produced some creative designs throughout her L3 Nail Services apprenticeship and shown a real passion for her chosen career. The competition was an ideal platform to show others an example of the high standard of work she is capable of.”

The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support. Members of the AHT include teachers, trainers or assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who are either working towards or currently hold teaching/assessing qualifications.
