The former Moorside High School student, who is currently studying a BTEC Level 3 in Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness at Newcastle College, put pen to paper in November having impressed during a trial period with the club. Having now signed, Lewis has head out on loan to Trafford Football Club, part of the BetVictor Northern Premier League North West Division, where he has already made his mark scoring an impressive 12 goals already this season.

Said Lewis on his signing: “It’s a really exciting opportunity to progress my football career with Altrincham. My AGFA coach John Johnston, plays midfield for the club, so his influence was instrumental in me getting a foot in the door and showcasing my skills to those in charge.”

In his time with the AGFA, Lewis has made a huge impact to the first-team squad. In May 2019, Lewis was named ‘Man of the Match’ in the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) U18 Colleges’ Cup final for his involvement in all three of the finals goals, scoring two and assisting the third when the AGFA team faced Godalming College in their 3-0 victory at Stoke City’s BET365 Stadium.

Despite an intensive training schedule with the AGFA, Lewis still manages to balance his time travelling an hour each way for training twice per week, as well as match days with Trafford FC.

He added: “John and Andy have really helped to keep me motivated throughout my time on the course, helping myself and others make links with local clubs, working on specific aspects outside of normal training times and really pushing me to improve all aspects of my game.”

“I’d thoroughly recommend the programme to any aspiring footballer, the College is fantastic for sport, with a positive working environment and great support.”

Head Coach, Andy Griffin said: “Lewis is a player who possesses all the qualities we aim to instil in our players when they embark on the academy programme. He is a determined, focused player with the right attitude, who is bright, keen and willing to work hard both on and off the pitch. This contract is hopefully the start of a bright footballing future.”
